In fact, especially Maciej and I have had (and having) our holidays,
I'm just back from Rome and already on the road again at my
girlfriend's parents...

Status is like this:

Toolchain
~~~~~~~~~
Matt Thomas's patchset for PIC generation (and a whole pile of other
changes bringing GCC's VAX backend mostly up-to-date with current best
practice) found its way into upstream GCC trunk. That is, for the
first time ever, you can build a vax-linux targeted stage1 compiler
for the very first time ever without any additional patches.
There may be some bugs around, there's not yet a GNU libc port,
though. But I hope that at the end of April, when there's the Linux
kernel hacker meeting in Essen (VAX hackers are welcome!), we can make
a large step forward.
Kernel
~~~~~~
I've broken out (hopefully) all changes we did to the last "old"
kernel you can find in the GIT repo at git.kernel.org. I've been
working on cleaning them up (ie. shouveling them through
checkpatch.pl,), fixing some path changes (./include/asm-xxx is no
longer) etc. Other than before, I'll not simply committing my stuff on
the master branch, but keep them on an own branch, rebasing with
master. That'll make it easier pushing the whole beast upstream at
some time. This work, which should end in booting a current kernel on
a VAX, isn't yet finished (-> internet via GSM at my girlfriend's
parent's site...), but I'm more than half through. I'm keen on getting
there _before_ going to Essen, to concentrate on toolchain hacking
here. Again, if you want to join us, just drop me an email!

Carma

Good progress during the last weeks, esp. in the toolchain land. Feels
quite good!
